About Your League

LWV is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation in government.

The League influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Membership is open to anyone supporting the League's mission and advocacy.

League advocacy (lobbying) is based on positions reached by the membership after careful study and discussion.

Educational and Voter Service activities are funded through the League's Education Fund.  Contributions to the Education Fund are tax deductible.

Advocacy positions held by the League are reached after member study and discussion. National positions were studied by all members; state positions were studied by members within the state.
Your League holds several statewide meetings for members each year.  They are:

Fall Conference: workshops and briefings on current issues
Legislative Day: an opportunity to lobby in Nashville
Council: (even years) workshops, speakers and adopt a budget
Convention: (odd years) elect officers, adopt program and a budget, amend bylaws and conduct other needed business

Voter Service activities include:

Voter registration drives
Candidate forums or debates, often televised
Voters' Guides (candidate positions on selected issues)
Directories of Elected Officials (published by local Leagues)
Flyers and booklets on voting and election laws
